Best known for his record-setting 2,544 performances in the title role of “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway, Howard has appeared in leading roles on Broadway, in addition to numerous appearances in television and film, and has sung on concert stages around the world. Howard appeared last season in the Tony winning revival of “Parade” and in the HBO original documentary "Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed”.
Other starring roles on Broadway include “Gigi”, “The Kiss Of The Spider Woman”, “She Loves Me”, “The Secret Garden”, “Anything Goes” (Tony and Drama Desk nominations), “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” (Tony and Drama Desk nominations, and Theatre World Award), and “Sunday in the Park with George”, which marked his Broadway debut. On London’s West End, Howard played Mack Sennett in “Mack and Mabel” as well as Billy Crocker in “Anything Goes”. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his NY theatrical debut in the NY Shakespeare Festival's “La Bohème” at The Public Theatre opposite Linda Ronstadt. Other theatrical credits include Stephen Sondheim’s “Bounce” directed by Harold Prince at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., where he was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award. His Off-Broadway credits include “Black No More” at the Signature Theatre, and “The Confession of Lily Dare” at the Cherry Lane. Concert appearances include Carnegie Hall, the Israel Philharmonic in Tel Aviv, and in Tokyo at Theatre Orb. Film credits include “Tick, Tick, Boom”, “South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut”, “The Swan Princess”, TV’s “The Blacklist”, “The Good Wife” and “Elementary”. On his 21st birthday, Howard was signed to an exclusive contract at Universal Studios, where he appeared in countless movies and television shows. His solo CD is “Where Time Stands Still”.
Howard has been on the adjunct faculty at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts for many years.
